Contest Time! Pandora: End of Days

Girls or towns or planets with names like Pandora just shouldn’t have boxes. Just asking for trouble. Satchels? Fine. Barrels? Okie doke. Boxes? No way.

Prizes though? Every Pandora should have prizes. Which brings us to a contest!

The past ten years have proven to be the great comeback decade of the zombie films.

Almost as if Hollywood decided to forgive and forget the not-so-graceful burnout of the infamous genre during the late 1980s, a decisive reboot of Romero’s legacy was inevitable.

The first Resident Evil movie in 2002 spawned a series of zombie-related films released to satiate the hunger of millions of survival-horror fans the world over.

But what about in comics?

AMC’s major hit TV miniseries, The Walking Dead, propelled sales of the graphic novels on which it was based to the top of the charts and encouraged comic-book creators nationwide to pick up a shotgun and take aim at their own vision of a zombie-infested apocalypse.

Appropriately setting the story in 2012, Real Interface Studios released a brand-new, 200-page graphic novel on May 9th that depicted its own zombie-horror twist on the popular upcoming Mayan apocalypse legend.

The violent outbreak, illustrated with gorgeous, manga-style artwork by Jin Song Kim, isn’t started by some mysterious virus this time. Instead the story delves into the consequences of combining man’s reckless nature with archeology, which results in an ancient plague being released upon the modern world in Pandora: End of Days Volume #1.

Having already sold one thousand copies on Barnes & Nobles during its first month of publication and soaring to the top two ranking in Amazon.com’s graphic-novel horror category, this is a must-read for survival-horror and zombie/Apocalypse fans or anyone in need of a great thriller.

Additionally, the book also provides instructions on how to enter in a unique Giveaway Contest!

The correct answer to this week’s questions was - Road to Perdition, which is based off of a comic of the same name.

Road to Perdition is slightly based off of Historical mobsters during the Great Depression, mostly John Patrick Looney and is also inspired by the manga Lone Wolf and Cub.  There have been a couple sequels as well.  On The Road to Perdition, which takes place during the same time period and Road to Purgatory/Road to Paradise two prose novels that deal with the adult life of Michael O’Sullivan Jr. (Tom Hank’s son in the movie).

Here’s Your Jon Stumps You All Winners, Bub! *snikt*

This weeks Jon Stumps You All question was: “Which Wolverine Costume had the longest consecutive run?”  This week we also had a bonus question of “When was it’s first appearance and how long did it run?”

The answer was Wolverine’s classic Brown and Tan costume which debuted in 1980 with Uncanny X-Men #139 and ran for roughly 11 years when he went back to the Blue and Yellow.

3 people this week were not stumped by my question!

  1. Dave Seley
  2. Shannon LaBeach
  3. Jonathan MacFarlane

Shannon was the first one to get the Bonus question correct, so he’ll be getting the spiffy Wolverine Claws!  I wanted to mention that Jonathan also got the bonus question correct, it wasn’t an easy and he deserves recognition.

Jon Stumps You All Winners!

It’s time to announce our winners from yesterdays Jon Stumps You All Contest!  Many entered, but these lucky five were able to run the gauntlet I setup.  Okay maybe it wasn’t a gauntlet, but they were able to come up with the correct answer.  For their efforts they will be receiving a Free Graphic.ly T-Shirt.  The winners were not Stumped by my attempt… this time!

  1. Sky Mayhew
  2. Ryan Closs
  3. Shannon LaBeach
  4. Nathan Dunlap
  5. Josh Deese

The correct answer to the question, “What is the name of the computer in Iron Man’s suit in the first move” is JARVIS.  Tony Stark’s computer for the Iron Man costume was actually a reference to his butler, Edwin Jarvis, from the comics.  In the novelization of the film JARVIS was an acronym that stood for “Just A Rather Very Intelligent System.”

The results are in! Jon was able to answer 8 questions correct, using the full minute.  The time includes the questions being read.  To enter for a chance to win a gift certificate from Threadless, either reply to the video on Youtube of Jon hearing his results or submit your video to The Couch using this link.

The questions that you asked to Stump the Stump and need to answer correctly are:

  1. In Strange Tales #111 how does Dr. Strange save The Master from the dreaded Baron Mordo?
  2. How Many Mutants were left after the events of House of M?
  3. On which scene of the Superman Movies did Christopher Reeve insist on acting opposite of Marlon Brando?

  8. Name at least 4 Image co-founders.
  9. Who did Scott Free replace as Mister Miracle?
  10. What is Deadpool’s alter ego other than Wade Wilson?
